Eben & I had been thinking that Edison was getting pretty heavy. Plus, people had been saying that he's really big. But, c'mon, he's so little compared to us. Anyway, we decided to do another unofficial weigh-in and it looks like he's up to 14 pounds and he isn't quite two months old yet. (I'll have official stats next week after his 2-month doctor appointment.) If that is correct, then he is at 95% for weight on the baby growth chart. This week I also moved him into the 3-6 month size for clothes. They're still a little roomy, but seem to fit better, especially in the diaper area because I'm using cloth diapers for the most part.
Besides Edison's post-swaddle stretching, this is another contender for "cutest Edison moment."
.
Other milestones: Edison had his first "social smile" this past week. On occasion he now smiles back when I smile at him. That is the best thing to see Edison smile because of somthing I have done. He also continues to work on his muscles - he lifts his head up on his own some of the time now and also likes to swat at toys that hang from they bar on his car seat.
We continue to enjoy long walks each day. I think he really likes to look up at the leaves on the trees (he is still on his back in an infant seat). I hope to move him into the jogging stroller soon, but it is not safe until he can support his head fully.
Edison is getting ready for the football season. The Patriots are going to have another fantastic year!
Yes - he really is that big. Still can't move very well on his own though, so he's stuck in the couch cushions.
.
Edison is all jazzed up from a day out on the boat. Can you start to tell what he's going to look like when he's older? I try to imagine it often but it is hard to know yet.

Dog Days of Summer
Edison wearing "big boy" clothes - well, just a monstrous pair of shorts to cover up his diaper. Looking older, though. We weighed him in at 13.5 pounds a couple days ago.
There are my boys! Edison's ears aren't that huge - it's just dad's hands behind his head that make them look that big.
Edison had his first swim in a co-worker's hot (but not too hot) tub. He was very relaxed and seemed to enjoy it. After his big swim, he slept very soundly. I think his swim trunk diapers are fabulous. Maybe you can tell from this picture, but he is starting to hold his head up on his own more and more now.

6 Weeks!
Things are going well here in Connecticut. Every day Edison is more & more alert. We're starting to get to a point where we can almost play together. He is starting to be able to look at a toy hanging on a bar and reach out to kick it or touch it. Eben & I are totally in love with our son and the small miracles that happen each day. Eben starts teaching next week - wish him luck!
Edison says, "I'm so cute. Even in these silly overalls."
Edison says, "Ahhhh - very relaxed. Mom was making sure my feet won't get cold."
We went on a walk to Crescent Beach Sunday. Dad was keeping me out of the sun. (P.S. - come visit us in Niantic & we'll all go to this beach!)
My first boat ride. Uncle Matt made sure I was doing okay. Thanks for the hat Uncle Dean & Auntie Carolyn - no sun was getting in my eyes - go Sox!

My how you've grown
Edison had is one-month check up this week. He is now 10lbs, 4oz & 21" long. The doctor at the Navy Base in Groton said he is right on track. As things start to calm down at home, we've been doing more "tumy time" with him. He lifted his head for about 10 seconds today - a new record & turned it multiple times side-to-side. Thus week he seems to have made a break-through with his vision. It now appears he can actually see & focus on objectts. He got excited looking at his crib mobile for the first time. So...he's still getting used to being in this outside world, but he is beginning to develop more to be functional in it. Stay tuned!
What's up world?! Are you ready for me? This was on the airplane.
We were fortunate to be able to attend the baptism of Eben's god-daughter, Jazelle Main. At that event, I finally got a great picture of Edison AND his mom!
.
And even one of our whole family! I think Eben and I are starting to figure out this parenting thing, but it doesn't mean it has gotten easier!
What a serene sleeper.... he just loves to be swaddled.

Meet the grandparents...
August 2008 - Busy Week!
This past couple weeks was the big move across country. We have been supremely busy & have not been able to communicate much with our friends & family. Uncle Palmer was on hand in CT to help us move into our house. We spent this past week trying to set up shop in the main living spaces, but still have a ton of boxes to unpack - lots of miscellaneous items have still not turned up. Anyone seen my cheese grater? Trying to move into and unpack a house one-handed with a baby is no easy task. Eben has also had to go to work this week, so no time on this end to manage household business. Additionally, the previous residents sent our mail return to sender before we arrived - argh! But... we really like our new house in Niantic & hope that we get lots of visitors - the guest room is ready & waiting! We are a 1.5 mile walk south to the downtown of the village which borders Long Island Sound. There are a couple city beaches, a Dairy Queen, Subway, Cinema, and boat ramp all down there. Edison & I are making a ritual of a morning walk into town & go up & down the mile-long boardwalk on the beach. Very fun (but its super humid and hot even at 8am).
At one month old, Edison keeps his eyes open more these days. You can already see that he is going to look just like his dad.
With mom - who finally had a minute to take a nice picture. Edison, unfortunately, was not very cooperative for this shot!
With uncle Palmer - Go Patriots!
With uncle Jason - woah...nice shirt.
