Father's Day Weekend!

Father's Day Weekend often gets sidelined by all of my end of the year responsibilities at the end of the school year. We squeezed in a few fun things on busy graduation weekend, however. We went rafting on the Wenatchee with Vic and Chris and took the kids on the main section, too! Reed was shrieking with joy and Charlotte loved the big waves.
We gave dad his presents on Saturday night. Each child made a special gift.
Reed's was a biography about Eben, complete with his picture on top.

Edison made a top five reasons why he loves dad list.

Charlotte (with a little help from Edison) made an intricate, ten page long comic strip featuring Pokemon characters.

We love the dad in our house! Happy Father's Day, Eben!
On Father's Day, we went out to Jetty Island with Chris and Meg. I showed up late, after graduation. It was a lovely afternoon and evening on the beach.

2018 Graduation!

Class of 2018 Graduates! You have left your mark on my heart. I am so excited for you to make it now on the world! You are loved! Hundreds - perhaps thousands - of hours of love and hard work on behalf of these people for the class of 2018 and Shorecrest as a whole. Thank you for your service and leadership: Brett Vlahovich, Hailee Desrosier, Asher Maria, Luke Busby, Shelby Gresch, Eddie Peabody, and Jerica Reyes-Jech.
I've had so much fun working with these two fine humans - Marcy & Brett. Social Studies for life!
I am going to miss my lunch companion, Nick Parker, and the resident "go to expert" when our tech at events (or in class) goes sideways. But I can't keep him at SC forever.
Fond memories with Annika of Student Council, so many lunchtime Core meetings I've lost count, 5 semesters of leadership, absurd school problems, etc., etc., etc. Now it all becomes fodder for funny stories.
Does this need words? Lisa is the best principal ever! Fascinator tradition continues with 2018 themes being: kindness / turn right and be patient / strong foundation. The speech was amazing - but definitely is eclipsed by the hat.
Lisa said Bo wore it best....

2018 Caen Laida

We marked another year at Shorecrest with the annual Caen Laida "Moving Forward" assembly. I am going to miss some of my favorite students:
Annika Simpson
 Nick Parker

 Coco Hart
 Annika & Hailee Desrosier
 Lucia Tucker
With next year's ASB Core: Meweal Habtai VP, Daniel Nzanga Pres., Gabe Nelson Tres, Amanda Kagarabi Sec.
 Outstanding ASB President: Luke Busby.
With Shelby Gresch & Luke Busby.
Amanda and big sister & leadership alum, Arielle.
 With Reno Williams.

Reed Loses First Teeth

Reed got hit by a hard-sided plastic swing and got his front two teeth knocked out last weekend. He was stoic. Eben held him for two hours and managed the situation - even pulling out the second tooth that was totally wonky. Reed was a good sport about everything and was excited the Tooth Fairy paid him a visit. He plans to spend his money on a milkshake.
The dentist took x-rays and reassured us that there was no damage to his permanent teeth. He'll just have this look for a much longer time than usual. Fortunately, it is so darn cute.
Our final book club of the year was once again hosted in Natalie's beautiful garden. I am so lucky to share these deep and vulnerable conversations with these ladies and I look forward to each meet up eagerly. We are on hiatus until September.
Jaime and I hosted a retirement party for my mentor, Tammy Caldwell, and her husband, Dick. They are both activity coordinators in Marysville who are retiring to spend more time together and manage health concerns. I wish I would have taken a picture with them! But Reed's teeth got knocked out about 5 minutes before everyone came over for the party - so there was a lot going on. I did manage to get this photo of Jaime and I working the BBQ in the rain - gotta love Seattle.

Prom 2018 at the Fremont Foundry

Prom 2018, Fremont Foundry. So much heart and soul and work went into this one. I am so proud of the senior senators and the Prom Committee who worked their tails off to make prices accessible for kids - only $15! Shout out to 2019/2020 ASB running support all night. Chaperones - you rock - wouldn't want to go to prom with anyone else - you make working fun! 2018 Class Advisors: Brett Vlahovich and Jerica Reyes-Jech!
My leadership co-teacher, Brett.
Awesome chaperone team!
The support crew of 2019/2020: Mehlat, Amehra, Lauren, Lauren, & Ally.
 Photobooth fun!
The Foundry was a really cool and hip spot. Too bad it was all DIY and I was exhausted by the end of the night.

 With senior senator, Hailee.

Edison and Charlotte's Concert

Edison and Charlotte had their end of the year concert last week. It was really awesome that their classes combined for this one and that they were so close together in the risers. Edison was with his good friend Grayson and Charlotte was next to her friend Keira. They did a tour de force of music: singing / playing the recorder / playing the Orff instruments / and even dancing the Pata Pata.

Edison's really found his groove playing the Orff instrument - like a big marimba.
Following the concert, the kids classes put on a Wax Museum. They had each researched someone from history, then they wrote speeches about them and acted as a figure in a wax museum - when visitors came and pressed their button, they had to come alive and give their speech. Charlotte was Hillary Clinton and  Edison was Thomas Edison.

Keira as Helen Martini the zookeeper and Rosalie as Sarah Edmonds who disguised herself as a man to fight in the Civil War.

Edison with Alex - aka "The Boss" Bruce Springsteen.
 Sully as Jim Henson.
Swimming!
Legos!
