Easter, Egg Hunt, Edison's Track, Charlotte's Lacrosse

Happy Easter! Give your bunnies lots of hugs! We’ve been BUSY! On Thursday, Edison had a big Shorecrest track meet - doing well at the shot put and finishing second in the discus. Friday I went to visit my dad in the hospital - he is there recovering from pneumonia. On Saturday, I helped host the Sheridan Beach Egg Hunt on a stunner of a day with a few other awesome neighbors. Jenna did a great job running the show and Monica made some incredible cookies and fruit cups and Melinda rallied the SC girls waterpolo team to do the eggs and all the fun kid stuff that morning. It was fun to see the big turnout, the happy kiddos, and have an event that marks the beginning of everyone coming outside again after the long winter. Charlotte had a lacrosse game and Edison passed the written portion of the drivers test with a 98%!
We went to the cabin the rest of the day. This morning, instead of Easter baskets, I made Easter goody bags. And because I forgot the plastic eggs at home, the kids just opened the big packs of jelly beans, etc. and sorted them out evenly into ziplocks. It was SO MUCH EASIER than baskets and the kids gave it a thumbs up - a new tradition is born! After an early drive home, I was able to enjoy a sunny swim in the pool before we headed over to Karen and Ivan's for our family Easter dinner. It was a a beautiful day and so fun to see everyone and catch up. Reed and Alec even decided to jump in the lake! And then quickly into the hot tub! LOL!

Age Group Regionals Swim Meet - Big Drops!

All three kids qualified for Age Group Regionals this year which was totally impressive. This is a meet of the top swimmers in a five-state region. The kids all had incredible swims and time drops. As a mom who drives daily carpools in support of this… it warms the heart to see their hard work paying off and to see them enjoy their Excel Swimming teammates and find success in the water.
Thanks to their awesome coaches for helping them get to this point!
Charlotte dropped 25 seconds in her 500 Free and smashed the 6:00 minute barrier, going 5:41. She also dropped over 2 seconds in her 100 Free and went an astonishing 57.31. Reed dropped two seconds in his 50 Back and finished in 9th place with a 34.65 which would be a record at the Aqua Club - WOW! Reed also rocked the 200 IM, 100 IM, 200 FR (dropped 8 seconds and placed 6th!) and 50 BR - having time drops in all of those! Edison showed he is super hard core - swimming the 500 FR, 100 FL (breaking the minute mark to go a 58) and the 1650 where he dropped 28 seconds to go a 17:57. I couldn’t be more proud of my kids and their hard work and effort!

WACA, Lacrosse Begins, Orchestra Concert, and 70F on St. Patrick's Day!

- I saw an ortho doc I really like this week. I’ve been trying to maintain mobility and strength the last few weeks. The plan moving forward to address the torn ACL is to rehab aggressively and hope to avoid need for surgery but to know that door is available if needed (like if my knee has unstable moments). Bring on the summer! And I just bought my ski pass for next year! Wish me luck as I continue to work hard on recovery.
- Charlotte finished her first season of basketball and is hooked. She loved her teammates and her coaches and can’t wait to work hard to improve on the court. .
- I went to the Washington Activity Coordinators Association annual conference and got to be inspired by some really amazing colleagues and leaders in our field: James Layman, Scott Backovich, Phil Boyte!!! It was an honor to learn from you! It was humbling to be there to see Vince Ivelia be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
- Charlotte started Sholax Lacrosse spring season. I love these girls, all the parents, and the sport is so fun to watch!
- Edison had his second orchestra concert this year. They are starting to sound really good. He had to do a quick change in the car after swimming the 500 FR at regionals to make it in time, but he did it! He has been playing for five years now and really enjoys it.
- We hit almost 70 degrees on St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The pool on Sunday felt like the summer. A taste of what’s to come!
