We stopped in Marblehead for lunch on our way to Eben dropping me off at the airport. It was neat to look across Marblehead Harbor, where Eben's family used to keep their boat. Across the harbor, on the Marblehead Neck side, was the lighthouse where Eben proposed and also the Corinthean Yacht Club that Eben used to spend summers at doing swim team, sailing team, and tennis.
At then peninsula was Fort Sewell, built in 1644 to fortify the coast and fortified for the American Revolution. It was cool to explore.
After taking me to the airport, Eben and the kids visited his best friend, Tano and his family.
I flew home to return to work, but Eben and the kids spent a few more days exploring Eben's old stomping grounds (Swampscott) and visiting with his father and brother. The Marblehead lighthouse park is where Eben proposed marriage 17 years ago.
This is Phillips Beach where Eben worked as a lifeguard in high school.
Phillips Park Playground - newly redone - is the location of the town's high school football field where Eben played growing up.
Eben also lifeguarded here at Eisman's Beach. The wall the kids are sitting was part of the New Ocean House on Phillips Point. It was a huge hotel in its heyday, before it burnt down in 1969.
At Pine Grove, they visited the memorial to ancestor Eben B. Phillips as well as Eben's mother, Virginia Phillips and other family members.
