Spring Break - San Diego #3 - The San Diego Zoo

Since I was a kid I'd been hearing about how amazing the San Diego Zoo is. It did not disappoint. My favorite animals of the day were these giant Galapagos Tortoises. These particular tortoises had been at the zoo since it opened in the 1920s. Apparently they can live up to 150 years! Wow!

 Super cuddly koalas.
We met up with Heather Murphy and her daughter Beatrix. She and Eben went to the Coast Guard Academy together and we'd both lived in East Lyme, Connecticut while our husbands taught at the Coast Guard Academy together and we set up play dates for the kids. It was wonderful to catch up and we will see her whole family again when they stop in Seattle on their move up to Sitka, Alaska this summer.

A highlight were these "sky buckets" that took us from one end of the zoo to the other.
We saw a ton of really cool animals, like this active elephant here. Charlotte's favorite was the baby cheetah, unfortunately we did not get a picture.
After the zoo, we toured Balboa Park, then headed back to the cottage for some relaxation at the end of a long day. For Charlotte, that meant mastering the scooter.
And for Edison, it meant playing Monopoly, though we never figured out the electronic banking calculator for this edition.
