Eben had to get underway on the Polar Star on my birthday, but before he did, he made sure I had a very special birthday week. We went out for a nice dinner together, had a last minute cocktail party with our friends, arranged to have the kids remember my birthday, finished a ton of work on the addition, and he bought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. My mom made my birthday-day special by joining the kids and I for lunch and a play at Seattle Children's Theater. She then surprised me with a delicious birthday cake and thoughtful presents.
Floyd and Kathie sent a really stunning bouquet, too! I LOVE flowers on my birthday! And very sweet cards, too!
We had a number of friends over for a last minute cocktail party and Tiffany made a delicious salted caramel apple spice cake. Yum! It was such a wonderful evening to spend with people that I am so lucky to have in my life.
Lane Loland, cornerstone of the Shorecrest Social Studies Department, is retiring this year. Marcy ordered us these cool shirts in his honor. As department head in 2004, he hired me and I am forever grateful for having the privilege to teach at Shorecrest and work with incredible educators and students.
Jaime and I enjoyed an unseasonably warm Friday afternoon walk. It is so powerful to connect with someone who knows the ins and outs of work in student leadership.
Ms. Kate is teaching Reed how to "skip count" which is a great basis for the concept of multiplication. Reed is loving school these days which is so wonderful to see.
