We settled into our usual summer routine of pool times, swim team, and seeing friends - it just looks a little different this year. Every swim team session has to be signed up for online in advance and has limited spots. The pool is trying to do a family swim option by letting three families each use one lane (one lane empty between) for an hour. That was actually more fun than I anticipated and Reed, in particular, is becoming a much stronger swimmer. Tennis was cancelled due to rain (waaaaah) and diving is set to start next week. Charlotte got to ride bikes with Chloe again (with me and Reed as chaperones). Edison got to do a big bike ride to Bothell with his friends and Greyson’s dad. They had a blast! Then we hosted a Zoom birthday party for him in which he decided he just wanted all the kids on it to play computer games together. We had a yummy strawberry cake that Edison picked out at the store, sang Happy Birthday, and got to celebrate(a little early) that Edison is 12! On Tuesday the kids had their weekly visit with Nana and helped her around the yard.
Wednesday we headed to Millersylvania State Park (just south of Olympia) to go camping. We stopped at the capitol building on the way. It was eerily empty and quiet and equally impressive. The camper towed well which is always a relief. The camp is beautiful and has many lasting structures from the CCC work of the New Deal. The weather wasn’t amazing, but the we were protected by the heavy forest canopy. It is on Deep Lake and there are many little picnic spots secluded from each other around the shoreline. We celebrated Edison’s birthday with cupcakes, a hike, and time at the lake. We hiked again Friday morning before coming home.
Reed was really great at finding cloudberries!
We rented a pedal boat to play in! Reed LOVED it! He pedaled us all over the lake!
