Weekend with the Birgfelds: Lake Minotaur, Campfire, Wenatchee Float

We spent two action-packed and beautiful days with the Birgfelds this weekend. We started with a steep hike up to the scenic alpine Lake Minotaur which is on a backroad between Stevens Pass and Lake Wenatchee. We climbed 2000 feet in a mile-and-a-half but after that it was a gentle uphill through blueberry bushes that had yet to ripen.
The lake is absolutely enchanting and invites play and exploration. Too bad there were so many bugs!

There is a nice viewpoint overlooking its sister lake, Lake Theseus, nearby.

We relaxed at the cabin and kicked our feet up. Edison built a really great campfire and we cooked our dinner on it.
The kids requested that we play Mafia around the campfire. It was an interesting psychological game in which one person "kills" another player in secret and the rest of the players have to try to figure out who the killer/mafia is. Each kid took turns narrating a game and it was fun to hear how each one took leadership of the game and embellished the scenarios, etc.

Legos! Still!
On Sunday we floated the river - this beauty and Costco special - served as the main raft. The kids each had a tube and were really proficient at moving around the river.

We had a long lunch break at "the island" and it was perfect conditions for hopping on the rock and floating in the current.

Other than the traffic on the way home, it was a perfect weekend with some really awesome friends!!!
