Utah Vacation - Day 1: Seattle to Bryce Canyon

Big adventure in a little weekend… started in Seattle this morning and made it to Bryce Canyon Lodge by this afternoon. Quite the decathlon of transportation and getting things done! The kids had not been on airplane since 2018, so that was a novelty for them. We also rented a sweet 4Runner for the trip, so that was fun and also allowed Reed and Charlotte a little more room (and separation) in the back seat.
We stopped a few times on the 4-hour drive from Las Vegas to Bryce and grabbed all our groceries for the trip.
The weather was perfect - about 70 in Las Vegas that morning when we landed and 57F high and full sunshine at Bryce (almost 9000' elevation), but dropped to 20F at night. Brrrr. Luckily everything was still snow-free and we could roam freely around the park.
We got there late in the afternoon and had time for the Navajo Loop hike from the rim down into the hoo doos. It was breathtaking to be there as the sunset and twilight came on. I don't think we could have timed it better.
After the hike we checked into our sweet digs at the
Bryce Canyon Lodge - a place we'd never be able to swing in the summertime, but was ours to enjoy in the off season. We ate dinner, played games, and then watched the Molly movie about the home front in WWII. The trip couldn't have gotten off to a better start!
