Sun Valley Day 5: Fourth of July! Sun Valley Lodge, Redfish Lake, Sunbeam Hot Springs, Stanley, Idaho

I left Sun Valley and drove up to Redfish Lake to give it another try and hope for fewer people. I was not disappointed. I had a nice patch of sand and it was much quieter there. They had the whole place decked out for the Fourth of July.
After some beach time, I kept heading north of 75 into the town of Stanley, population 63 and actually through it and outside of town a little more along the Salmon River. I ended up spending a couple hours at Sunbeam Hot Spring which was absolutely perfect - no other people and a whole pool to myself and I felt incredibly fortunate. This is a hot spring that was developed by the CCC in the thirties with a bathhouse. It has consistently great hot water supply, coming out a big pipe at about 140F. The pools people have built using the boulders and rocks to create a mix of the hot water and the much cooler river water until it ends up being perfect for soaking. I loved this afternoon.
After that, I headed back to Stanley to check into the High Country Inn - I had booked a room at the last minute thinking it would be a fun town to be in for the Fourth of July celebrations. There was one room left in town that night and I had to splurge and was in the Bill Harrah suite which was phenomenal and I wish I was able to share it with the kids with a giant bathroom, living room, and private porch. Bill Harrah would come up from Vegas to hide out and bought a large portion of the town of Stanley.
It was also just one block from the parade, street dance, and fireworks - so it was fun to be in the center of everything. People drive in from 1-2 hours away for the occasion and there was quite a fun crowd and the band was really high energy. It was a gem of a night and by the end of it, I’d made friends with folks and we kept dancing and swapping stories in the Kasino Club until late.
