Sun Valley Day 4: Hyndman Basin and Sundance Lake Hike

I am so appreciative I get to be here - the mountains are so gorgeous and rugged! The wildflowers are going off! There’s still snow decorating the peaks. I just wanted to get out today and wasn’t too concerned how far I got because the whole basin is lovely.
I ended up going to Sundance Lake. There was 2772’ of elevation gain and Sundance Lake is at 9770’ and a 9.7 mile roundtrip from the trailhead. Sundance Lake is in a magical meadow at the base of Hyndman Peak. A popular option from this point is to continue on the trail to the saddle between Hyndman Peak and Old Hyndman Peak. The snow began just after Sundance Lake and so I wasn’t able to continue since I didn’t have the right gear. I spent an hour by Sundance Lake just enjoying how beautiful and peaceful it is. Sigh! What an incredible day!
