In the last week, we went from school mode to summer mode with a lot of celebrating along the way. Reed and his buddies graduated from Brookside Elementary - saying farewell to their "bluebird" chapter. I met with my incoming ASB officers for a Leadership Retreat at the lake which went really well - hopefully a beacon of a great year to come. Crystal hosted a fabulous teachers' end of the year party and we let loose and said goodbye to this past year which its fair share of hard stuff wrapped up in the wonderful student growth moments. Jess and I went to the best LFP Dad Band show for Who's Your Daddy on Saturday night. It was a non-stop dance party and we had so much fun. Monday was our last day of school - go ahead and audit us, Olympia, we did all 1080 hours for the year, even adding an extra 10 minutes to Monday to make sure we are in compliance. Lots of learning was happening those final 10 minutes, lol. As is tradition in LFP, the Civic Club hosted a huge end of year beach party. This year was extra special as Edison was working it, Charlotte met friends there and I took Reed and a bunch of his friends down. It was a gorgeous day and a fun way to transition to summer mode.
The shift to summer is always a little hard for me when I try to get a bunch of things done before it gets too busy with other things. This week we have knocked out: two doctor appointments, one orthodontist appointment (Charlotte is DONE with all that forever! Yay!), and an oil change. This year I wanted to make sure that the kids and I talked about expectations and set some goals for the summer. I was nervous for exactly how to do this and also I know that I don't always have great follow through, so I wanted to keep things simple. The result is a daily reading goal and screen time limit plus some expectations around tidiness and laundry. We are now finishing day three and so far, so good.
We also hosted Charlotte's birthday sleepover on Tuesday.
Finally - I have started a refresh project in the kitchen which includes some new appliances, a DIY vinyl tile floor, painting the walls and cabinets, and a mudroom corner revamp. Reed and Charlotte have helped a little bit. I am feeling optimistic that it will turn out looking much better than before but without the tens of thousands price tag of a total remodel. So now I am covered in paint and have the aches of multiple days of painting to prove it. But I'm proud of working hard on my little house.
