Summer Adventure Circuit with Jess - Day 1: McMennamins Edgefield, Edison and Charlotte's USATF State Track Meet

Summer Adventure Circuit with Jess - Day 1: McMennamins Edgefield - just outside Portland. After having such an incredible Maui trip last summer, Jess and I decided to plan another adventure week together this year. We are doing a route through Oregon and have packed all kinds of gear into the car for every scenario. Day 1: On our way to Portland, we were able to cheer on Charlotte as she competed at the state level Junior Olympics in discus - we missed Edison's throwing as he threw later in the day. But they both did awesome and they each won the meet for the age group. Onto regionals next weekend in Spokane. Hooray!

We arrived at McMennamins in the early afternoon and checked into our perfect room that had a door onto the second level front balcony. The hotel building dates from 1911 and was repurposed from being a "poor farm." We explored every inch of the quirky property - all the tiny bars and gardens and art pieces, etc. It is truly a work of art conceived by a genius. The weather was perfect and it was the best day. After exploring, we sipped on cocktails made with fresh fruit and herbs from their garden in one of their gardens. It was idyllic. WE followed that with dinner on the patio and then a couple hours at the tropical-vibe resort pool as the sun went down. Finally we did one last lap of the property to see what was shaking under the stars before heading to bed. It was a totally fun experience and a perfect way to start our vacation!
