Canadian Adventure: Day One - Seattle to Echo Bay, Broughton Islands

Our big adventure of the summer was our week-long trip to the Broughton Islands and to Desolation Sound with the Adams Family. It was amazing. Our first three days was a scouting mission up north around the Broughtons. That was followed by five days at Gorge Harbour Marina and Camping Resort on Cortes Island near Desolation Sound - further south.
The first leg of the trip was driving from Seattle to Vancouver, BC, followed by getting on the ferry over to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, followed by a four-hour drive up the east coast of Vancouver Island, and then launching the Whaler at Telegraph Cove - just south of Port McNeill, and then boating through the Broughtons to Pierre's Marina at Echo Bay.

Our launch point was Telegraph Cove, a cute boardwalk village on the water.

This area is renown for its wildlife. And it catered to our kids with a trampoline to play in while we waited for Chris and Eben to ready the boat.
 Leaving civilization behind....
We saw some many humpback whales on this trip. It was unreal!
We reserved the floating, green-gabled guest house on the left for two nights and used the Whaler to explore.
The house was really cool inside - felt very ship shape.

We tied the boat up right by the back door.
Chris got the kids organized into a dish crew and they did the dishes every meal! Success!
Our first night we just took the boat to the other side of Echo Bay where there is a Marine Park and a cool midden and old, abandoned school. It was beautiful to explore at twilight and makes one think about the people who've lived here before.
