We stayed at the gorgeous Lake Quinault Lodge in the Olympic National Park this past weekend. It was supposed to be our Midwinter Break Vacation, but due to the heavy snow in Seattle that week, we moved our stay to May. Other than some drizzle on our first morning, the weather actually turned out sunny and beautiful despite being in the rain forest which gets 16' of rain annually. We really lucked out.
The lodge was quite impressive inside and out. It was built in the summer of 1926 and makes it 95 years old. Our room was in the main lodge and was quite old fashioned in a good way - but also reiterated why everything else was amazing - the point is to not stay in your room, but instead to enjoy the lobby, the grounds, hikes, etc.
It was hard seeing the original decorations of native people in this way on the lobby ceiling. To both admire a kind of art nouveau painting but find the content as it was portrayed as objectionable.
A Roosevelt Elk.
The old school hallways and our cozy room.
Our first morning we greeted Bigfoot and then headed for a luxurious swim and sauna.
And we had just enough service to check the NFL draft proceedings.
