The cottonwoods were putting on an incredible show this weekend. Their bright yellow leaves appeared lit with an internal glow. The breezes triggered leaves to fall in bunches like confetti, zigzagging to the ground. Magic.
I spent a glorious weekend at the cabin recovering from the Homecoming hoopla and festivities. Walking down to the swimming hole and into town Saturday morning was lovely. Knocked a dent in the wood pile by using the splitter and working on it for about four hours. Then headed over to Wildflour for dinner with the highlight being their signature roasted mushrooms with thyme cream and balsamic. For the main, had mezzaluna fig and goat cheese filled pasta in a sage sauce with beets. mmmmmm.
After a morning soak in the hot tub, went for a walk to Twin Lakes (from the Meadow Creek side). Twin Lakes was still as glass. It was raining lightly upon arrival, but after lunch, the sun had come out and there was blue sky and the sunshine lit up the rocky mountains at the far end of the lake. It was a delightful trail for today with beautiful vistas and snapshots just about anywhere a person could look. After cleaning the cabin, stopped for a time along Nason Creek just to cap off the day. Gratitude for being able to call the eastern slopes my happy place.
