Sun Valley - Day Two. Today I was able to ski with my friend Ryan. We suited up early in the River Run Lodge. It totally puts our lodges at Stevens Pass to shame. We were greeted with mild temperatures on the mountain and fast conditions. We mostly stuck to bombing down big, long groomers. I clocked my top speed yet - 49.5 mph. Oh so close to 50… that is the problem with me and stats… gotta get a little bigger, better, faster, more each time out. Doh! It is fun to have a little challenge, though. It is fun to ski with a friend and we ski the same style, so that was even better.
We had lunch at Seattle Lodge on top of the Seattle Ridge with incredible 360 degree views. We headed over to the newly opened Mayday chair and did some powder runs after lunch. Since it is the first day it is open, we got fresh tracks run after run which was pretty special. We finished up with more top-to-bottom runs and clocked in at 30,000’ vertical. Not too shabby.
After resting up and a hot tub, I headed up to meet Ryan at Sun Valley Lodge where he works. It is such a beautiful property. The grounds crew has done a magnificent job with putting up Christmas lights everywhere and there are some stunning ice sculptures left from a tree lighting festival a couple weeks ago. We popped into the Pioneer for dinner, but it was crowded, so we opted for Whiskeys on Main instead. What a joy it is to be here and able to live it up and spend time with Ryan. So fun!
