Monday morning, I picked up Reed for Spring Break - it was going to be just the two of us this year. Edison headed off to Iron Wood Throw Center in Idaho for private training sessions. Charlotte was still in California. Rather than stay at home and wait for teenagers... Reed and I made the best of it. After a red eye (first class upgrade doesn't change the fact that it is a red eye), and a nap in a parking lot, we drove two hours west to Birmingham. We started by visiting my cousin Matt, his wife, Paige, and their almost-two-year-old daughter, Helen in Birmingham, Alabama. I haven't seen them in a really long time and it felt wonderful to reconnect. They are both physical therapists running a private practice that includes fitness courses and Matt also works with a group of physicians. Not only do they manage all of that, but they've totally renovated and expanded their home in the lovely town of Mountain Brook to be super welcoming as well as stylish. In full toddler glory, Helen is the boss. But she is also sweet, observant, and a quick learner. She took to Reed really fast and even asked for me to hold her a few times. My heart just burst! Their dogs, Trigger, Scotch, and Isla are full of energy and a lot of fun. Plus, they are expecting a baby boy later this summer! We are already making plans to visit again next year!
