Main Salmon River Trip - Day 1: Corn Creek to Big Squaw Creek

We planned a five-day raft trip with our family, Chris and his friend (now our friend), Dylan.
Our goal was to get on the Main Salmon River on July 19. Starting July 20, a special permit is required - which we applied for but did not get. So, we pulled the kids a couple days early from school, packed up Tuesday after work and left Seattle at 8:15 at night. We drove the Tahoe through a beautiful full-moon-night to Missoula, then headed south to North Fork, Idaho and arrived at 9:00 after going through some impressive landscapes. Rigging and packing the rafts took awhile, but everything was worth it once we launched and got going.

We had a gorgeous first day float with good weather.

We stopped at mile 17.9 for our camp - Big Squaw Creek. It had a nice sandy beach and an upper bench for tents. We were exhausted after the drive, getting the boats ready, and the river miles. It felt good to roll into camp and unwind.

We had a quick and easy dinner and a nice fire that night.
