We travelled to Seaside, Oregon for a fun "mini reunion" weekend with some of Eben's football teammates from the Coast Guard Academy, Jamie, Kerry, and Matt as well as their families. Jamie and his family are stationed there now and they generously hosted all of us in their house with class and grace - I am totally impressed and thankful. We spent two days at the beach in Gearhart, just north of Seaside. You can actually just drive your car onto the beach - perfect for a family with too much beach gear to carry.
What is it about the beach that makes kids want to dig all day? In the background is Tillamook Head.
Eben & Kerry, reliving the glory days.
On Sunday, we took an early morning stroll in Cannon Beach - about ten minutes south of Seaside. We spent our "babymoon" with Edison in Cannon Beach and wanted to revisit the places that we had found so cool, especially the narrow lanes with the weathered cedar shake siding. The kids were unimpressed. Maybe it was the fog?
We went back to the beach that afternoon, hoping the fog would lift.
Edison was happy all weekend since he got to spend it with his best pal, Grace.
Charlotte the sandmonster.
Having seen a kite in the video "Barney goes to the Beach," all Edison could talk about was how much he wanted to fly a kite. So here is with his new kite. He did get a kick out of it.
The scene with the dunes beyond.
By the end of the day, the fog had lifted and the kids got in the water. This is actually the area where a creek joins up with the ocean. The tide was coming in and the whole depression filled in with nice calm water.
Ever adventurous, Charlotte overs near the edge.
Jamie and Danya's dogs just had puppies and the kids really had fun with them.
Edison liked to carry this little guy around.
