Spring Break 4 - Roadtrip: Alexandria, Annapolis, Rehoboth Beach, New Jersey, Philadelphia

We hit up the whole Mid-Atlantic Region in a super styling and fast Dodge Charger while enduring a day-long heavy rain and wind storm of 1-2" and coastal flooding. The kids can now check off Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania off their list of states.

Annapolis was quaint and delightful and soaking wet. We'd had visions of checking out the sailboat show, but ended up just cruising through. We got out out and walked a bit at the State House and also at the Naval Academy gate, though we didn't have time for a tour. The kids' uncle Dean went to USNA, so it was fun to imagine him there back in the day.
The highlight for all of us was getting to the Atlantic Ocean. To do this, we had to drive over the Bay Bridge, which was insanely long and spans the Chesapeake Bay. Then all the way across the rest of Maryland and Delaware and out to Rehoboth Beach. In the summer it is a mecca with huge sandy beaches and miles of boardwalk. We enjoyed watching the surf pound from our lunch spot, "Above the Dunes." Then the kids raced to see who could be the first to the Atlantic (Edison won). I love the series of the brothers, though, as it is clear they are fond of each other and Reed looks up to Edison so much.
Then it was getting to Philadelphia via New Jersey and over the Delaware River (also way larger than I imagined). Grocery shopping in the city and driving through on a rainy Friday during rush hour are not recommended for out of towners, but we managed to accomplish both and get the car returned on time.
Our Airbnb here is a fourth-floor walk up in downtown near City Hall and it is cute as a pin and comfortable as a crash pad.
