This summer we have a few short getaways planned since we can't seem to string together enough time for a proper vacation. We are getting back into the swing of traveling together, putting screens down, being present, navigating new roads, pitching in to help with meals, getting over looking like a tourist, and having some good adventures and laughs.
First up: San Francisco! We found a cute Airbnb near Ocean Beach and Golden Gate Park and a rented super fun Land Rover for the weekend. Karl (that's the local name for the fog) was in full effect upon our arrival. But the fog ended up burning off Saturday mid-morning and we had glorious sunshine for our big day of exploring the city.
San Francisco Saturday, Part 1: We started out early and walked nearly 11 miles and saw so many awesome sights! Here's the list: SF Botanical Garden, Aquatic Cove, SF Maritime National Historical Park / Hyde Park Pier, Fisherman's Wharf, the Embarcadero, Pier 39...
We rode the Cable Cars and saw how they are turned 180 degrees at the end of the line. We walked through vibrant Chinatown and got souvenirs. We climbed all 13 flights of stairs inside Coit Tower (after walking up Telegraph Hill...) and saw incredible views all around. We gawked at Lombard Street's curves and hydrangeas. We took a well-deserved REST BREAK. Then went back to Golden Gate Park: to go up into The Hamon Observation Tower and see highlights in the galleries of the de Young Museum.
In Golden Gate Park: Spreckels Temple of Music, the Shakespeare Garden, then out to the Sutro Bath Ruins and Ocean Beach. After dinner, Reed and I drove to Ghirardelli Chocolatier for incredibly delicious sundaes and sunset at SF Marina looking towards the Golden Gate Bridge. We managed to pull off a perfect day exploring San Francisco!
