Spring Break - San Diego #6 - Sea World and Bonita Cove

Friday we went to Sea World, which the kids remembered from our visit two years ago. Back then, Charlotte had wanted to ride this roller coaster, but was too small. It was our first agenda item upon our return. She loved it!

They have a nice area for smaller kids and Reed could do a lot of the rides.

Edison hadn't done any roller coasters on our visit so far. But I think he picked this one to go on simply because he was tall enough and Charlotte wasn't. Little did he know that the "Manta" was the scariest roller coaster in all the parks we visited - going fully upside down. He handled it well, though! You can see him and Eben a couple rows from the left.

 Dolphins! Yay!

The orca whale show!

Sky Tower gave us a great view of the Mission Beach area we'd been staying in for the past week.
The dolphin show was really cool - it involved people acrobatics and diving, too, which was impressive.

Last sunset - too bad the sun wasn't around.
But we did hit the Merry Go Round and wooden roller coaster at Belmont Park - across the street from our cottage. I think Edison has now conquered his fear of roller coasters.

Last morning at the beach before going to the airport. What a fabulous vacation and we will certainly miss San Diego!

The ride home was rough with Reed - but we made it!

Spring Break - San Diego #5 Point Loma and Coronado Beach

Zach, Jen and Mike met up with us Thursday morning at our cottage and we checked out the beach.
Then we did a little touring - down to Point Loma which is the northwestern point protecting San Diego's harbor. It is a National Park and has an interesting restored light house with furniture and other artifacts from the late 1800s in it as well as lighthouse technology scientific displays.
 Looking south towards Mexico.

There is also a monument to Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo who claimed the area for Spain in 1542, the backdrop of which is the San Diego skyline.

The original lighthouse, fully restored. They ended up building a newer lighthouse closer to the water as this one wasn't visible to sailors when it was foggy.
The new lighthouse and current Coast Guard station - not a bad gig.
Sadly, Zach's family had to leave to catch their flight home. We cruised down to the southern end of San Diego and over the bridge to Coronado Beach - a truly awesome stretch of sand and a fine looking town for families. The kids were all very intent with their sand creations.

Finally - enough sun to enjoy the water!

Spring Break - San Diego #4 - Lego Land, Part 2

We went back for another day of Lego Land on Wednesday. It was still a lot of fun.

Duplo Land was really fun and looked just like the real Duplo blocks.

Reed could go in the boat through the Fairy Tale Brook and loved it.
We saw the actual set for the Lego Movie.

We met up with Edison's best friend from kindergarten, Zach, and his family for lunch and stuck together the rest of the day. It was so much fun!

Edison and Zach tried their hand at driving the boat (it was a little crazy)! Zach's parents, Jen and Mike, are nudging them along from the rear.
Reed had fun in this little play area while waiting for the kids to finish Skipper School.

 Back to Duplo Land.

Wrapping it up with another big roller coaster ride for Charlotte and some airplanes for everyone.

We stopped in with Zach's family at the Lego Land hotel to check out their digs and have a snack - pretty cool! Finally - we topped it off by making it back to our cottage just in time to walk over and catch sunset.
