Whistler - Our Grownups' Getaway

Eben and I went to Whistler the following weekend, just the two of us. We lucked out with blue skies and almost spring-like temperatures. We were able to ski both mountains and what felt like almost every run. We definitely want to return with the kids when the weather is like this so that they, too, can explore the whole area. We especially liked skiing Harmony Ridge, Seventh Heaven, and the Blackcomb Glacier bowl.

We rode the "peak to peak" gondola across the valley from Whistler Mountain to Blackcomb Mountain. That was very scenic. We were in a "glass bottom" gondola with a view thousands of feet down to the river below.

Whistler Trip!

We did a last minute trip to Whistler over Winter Break. It was a big storm system (with rain) at the cabin and at Stevens Pass. But it was snowing at Whistler and our ski passes work there this year. So all we had to do was get there.... So we left the cabin at 8:00AM in the rain, picked up our passports from our house in LFP, and headed up to Squamish, BC to a hotel. They had a pool and waterslide for the kids, we ate a picnic dinner in our room and played cards. It was actually a lot of fun (but a LONG drive). The next day we skied from open to close at Whistler and headed home (another long drive). There was 4+ feet of powder at Whistler which was incredible and made for a number of times where we had to dig each other out of the snow during the runs. The storm was lingering at Whistler - heavy snow and lots of wind - so the top part of the mountain was closed, unfortunately, and everyone was skiing the mid-mountain which made for long lines. We had a few great runs at the end of the day, though. So - not totally ideal, but we still did it. As we say in our family, "Its always an adventure." That's definitely true in this case.

Riding the gondola was a first for the kids.

JANUARY - New Year at the Cabin

We kicked off the New Year at the cabin with friends and lots of skiing. We met up with the Birgfields on New Year's Day and watched a heartbreaking loss for the Huskies in the Rose Bowl while Charlotte, Harper, Bryn, and Reed played on the sled hill.
Edison is looking so grown up these days!

Lots of time spent driving to/from cabin and to/from skiing. This is the stuffy he chose when going Christmas shopping with Nana. What a great companion in the car.

Goodbye 2018 Celebration!

We said goodbye to 2018 with Brandon, Cohen & Camden at the cabin. It was a clear and chilly night but the fire and lights on the sled trail made it festive.

We had a lot of fun with sparklers and fireworks this year.

We tried to buy our favorite firework "purple rain" again, but they didn't have it at the fireworks stand. They recommended this one instead. It was pretty and popping away and then all of a sudden it went from this -
.... to this! The kids' reaction was hilarious as they ducked down out of the way.
