John Day Raft Trip - Memorial Day Weekend - Part 1

Friday: Drove to central Oregon tonight with the kids! Made it to the tiny farm town of Condon. The beautiful sunset beyond the grain silo is the view out the back of the room.
We are looking forward to launching on the John Day River for a 3-day river trip tomorrow morning!

Saturday: John Day River Float - Day 1: Started near town of Fossil in central Oregon. We unloaded the car, inflated the raft, packed the dry bags, and launched at Service Creek. We floated at 4 miles an hour for 20 miles to Homestead Rapids and our camp for the night. We had perfect weather other than the thunder storms that rolled in around dinner for an hour. Absolutely stunning landscape. There is nothing that can beat camping in a river canyon with no one else anywhere on the horizon. It is pure magic. The sunset was beautiful and the stars were glittering and twinkly. Venus was showing off and was incredibly bright. The kids were helpful and the we listened to an audiobook while floating. So happy to be on the river!!

Sun Mountain Lodge and Rafting the Methow

Beautiful weekend to be rafting. First stop was the cabin. Followed by Twisp and a sunset dinner on the deck of Sun Mountain Lodge which had stellar views. Today met up with Jessica Kelley (finally!) for a run down a super splashy Methow River @ 13,000 CFS. It was just a bunch of awesome wave trains with incredible scenery of a very green valley with good people. Topped it off with a spin around the Mazama Store and dinner at the Mazama Public House on their super lovely patio. And a stunning drive over the just-opened-for-the-season Highway 20 with a mandatory breathtaking view over Lake Diablo. Ahhhh. Returned to a rainy west side. Already missing my eastern slopes.

Kellogg Track and Field Season - #1 and #2 in SNO-KING!

And just like that, Kellogg Middle School Track & Field is over. Edison is the Sno-King 8th Grade Boy Discus Champion (128')!!! Charlotte placed second in discus for 7th Grade Girls (66’)!!!

Edison also finished fourth in the shot put (39'). * Proud mama moment. He loves throwing, but entered the mile, the 100, and a relay with his buddies over the course of the season.

Charlotte tried many events in her first year of track including the mile and a few relays, but found she liked the hurdles best and also throwing the discus and the shot put.

It was a super fun season to watch both Edison and Charlotte challenge themselves, work hard, and be good friends and teammates. Thank you to all our coaches and volunteers for making this possible! We appreciate your hard work so much!

As much as we joke that middle school track is just a big social hour with a few bursts of speed thrown in, it wasn't much different for the adults. We had so much fun as parents cheering on our kiddos. And so fun to run into so many great people today at the Sno-King Finals at Shoreline Stadium. You know who you are :-)
