Good things about the morning: sleeping in, getting a bonus drink at Starbucks when they made the wrong one by accident, enjoying the beautiful homes, gardens, squares, and streets of historic Savannah. Not so good things: the unbelievable heat and humidity (102F, folks), the beautiful white fountain being gone for renovation at Forsyth Square, the Forest Gump bench being removed from its original location to a museum so the scene can't be recreated, and Charlotte being totally irritable because of the heat. But we persevered, I loved the walk around the town, and we even had time to shower again before checking out of the hotel.
After that, we drove to Bonaventure Cemetery and stopped in the visitor center. Most cemeteries don't have visitor centers, but this one is unique and even handed out maps. The effort put into plots, carvings, monuments, statues, and tombs is incredible and an art form. It wasn't spooky during the bright sunny day, but I can imagine it feel quite mysterious and connected to the paranormal in the night.
