The 3A State Track Meet and Charlotte's 15th Birthday!

Charlotte's 15th Birthday was on day 2 of the State Meet. We had a simple birthday gift to celebrate beforehand. She is such an amazing young woman and I love her so much. I want her to feel special on her birthday! I think she is excited for the Mamma Mia musical tickets for June, the Abba shirt to go with it and a gift certificate for a new Jolyn suit.

State Meet ReCap: Qualifying for the WIAA 3A State Meet was the goal of both Edison and Charlotte since the start of the season, so it was really exciting to see that achievement happen and be at the meet. Spoiler alert: Edison placed 8th in the discus with a PR throw of 158'9" and that landed him on the podium! Charlotte placed 12th in the discus with a solid throw but was disappointed to not throw her best - she is hungry for another chance next year. Edison moved up in the shot put with another throw of 45' and finished in 14th place, not bad for your "off event."

The meet is a SCENE - there are thousands of people there to see a combination of the 2A, 3A, and 4A meets done in event rotations over three days at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma. Every school had a tent, there are food trucks everywhere, merch stands abound, etc. It was really well organized considering what a massive event it is.
Our Shorecrest coaches put together a great three-day experience for the athletes including organizing the hotel stay, transportation, meals, a team BBQ, coaching and videoing the athletes, rallying the team to cheer each other on at events, and the state meet shirts. They even got Charlotte a special treat on her birthday, Friday. I think Charlotte enjoyed spending time with the other girls on her team and having them take her under their wing. It was a very positive experience and I think we will all feel more prepared next year!
