Spokane & Priest Lake, Idaho Mini-Getaway
Edison and Charlotte are doing a Throwing Camp in Idaho this week so we headed over early to explore Spokane and Priest Lake. I'm so glad we did! Spokane is centered around the Spokane River and Falls has a beautiful old brick downtown. We stayed right in the middle of it and walked everywhere. The Riverfront Park has many walking paths and bridges and even has the Pavilion that we saw at night when they run a light show on it. We also spent an hour walking around the Gonzaga University campus. We found the giant bulldog statue and the basketball complex.
Priest Lake is a two-hour drive northeast in the Selkirk Mountains and is called the Crown Jewel of Idaho for its clear water and sandy beaches. We rented a 15' Boston Whaler at Elkins Resort and had the best boat day - exploring the 19-mile long lake, including taking it up to the north end and through the 3-mile long, narrow Thorofare into Upper Priest Lake which was incredibly serene. We did a lot of swimming and tubing. The kids said it was one of their best days this year and I couldn't agree more.
We hiked the "Bowl and Pitcher" area in Riverside State Park just north of Spokane Sunday morning, a really interesting area of basalt formations on the Spokane River, but it was too hot for much activity outside. We headed over to Couer d'Alene and spent the afternoon in the shade of big trees at McEuen Park. Edison and Charlotte worked on their online courses (boater license and health class, respectively). Reed and I threw the football around and explored down by the beach and boardwalk. Its been developed really well and the downtown is really cute. Finally, we met up with Floyd and Kathie at the Airbnb in Post Falls, Idaho and had a nice dinner together. Edison and Charlotte will stay with them and go to the Throwing Camp this week!
