Woke up early and headed straight to the Goat Peak Lookout Trailhead. Managed to get up there and almost back to the my car before anyone else was on the trail. I did, however, come across cows on the way down the trail. Love that! It is a short and steep trail, just under 2 miles each way. The lookout is staffed right now during fire season. There is a nice bench to sit on and enjoy the view on the bottom deck of the look out. There is also the SKETCHIEST outhouse I have ever seen, anchored to the cliff with cables… looked a little like risky business. The views are phenomenal, but obviously would have been even better without the haze from the fires. I want to go back!
After that, stopped one more time at Mazama Store for a baguette this time. The sea salt on top is my favorite part. Then headed three hours to the cabin. I was considering paddling at Alta Lake, but it was 95 degrees with no shade there and I just couldn’t put forth the effort to get the kayak ready. I had my work cut out for me cleaning up the cabin after some really unfortunate renters, so I was glad I saved enough time to do that.
